Questions employers ask
How much can an agency charge the helper?
By law, an employment agency may take no more than 10% of a job seeker's first month's wages, ancillary service fees included, and only after she has been paid. Overcharging is a criminal offence. This applies to foreign domestic helpers. Code of Practice for Employment Agencies · Cap. 57A
Is the employer's agency fee capped?
No. The law caps only what job seekers pay. Employer fees are set by each agency and vary by package (overseas hire, local transfer, direct hire). Ask for a written fee schedule before signing. Fee rules
How do I check whether an agency is licensed?
Employment agencies in Hong Kong must hold a Labour Department licence, and their adverts and websites must show the licence number. LD's Employment Agencies Portal lets you check any agency by name or licence number; an "agency" missing from LD's register may be unlicensed. This site is not the register: it only shows the number an agency prints on its own website. Find an agency · LD licensed agency search
What accreditation does an agency need for Filipino helpers?
Contracts for Filipino helpers must go through an agency accredited by the Philippine Migrant Workers Office (MWO); Indonesian helpers are placed through agencies the Indonesian consulate has accredited. On their published lists, 598 agencies here are MWO-accredited and 264 consulate-accredited; each agency page shows its status. MWO accredited agencies · Indonesian consulate accredited agencies
