Find a Hong Kong maid agency, and how to check its licence
Employment agencies in Hong Kong must be licensed by the Labour Department. This site covers 855 helper agencies from their websites and the consulates' accreditation lists, but it is not the licence register: the Labour Department's search is the authority on whether an agency is licensed.Check a licence on the LD site ↗
How to check an agency
- A licensed agency must display its Labour Department licence at its office and print the licence number in adverts and on its website; check it by name or number on the LD site, and compare the name and address.
- By law, the most an agency may take from a helper is 10% of her first month's wages, and nothing else.
- Filipino helpers' contracts must go through an agency accredited by the Philippine Migrant Workers Office (MWO); Indonesian helpers through one the Indonesian consulate has accredited. Each agency page shows its status.
- To check an agency for warnings, convictions or licence revocations, see the official lists on the Labour Department's Employment Agencies Portal (links below).
